Of all the activities we add to our busy homeschool days, few yield such a rich return as copywork. Not only does it offer practice in handwriting and letter formation, but it helps children build a strong vocabulary, teaches punctuation and grammar, hones reading comprehension skills, and fills our children’s minds with beautiful language so that when they begin to produce their own original writing, they have a deep well of well-crafted literature to draw from. For these reasons, copywork has long been a mainstay of classical and Charlotte Mason educators.

Best of all, it takes just 5-10 minutes a day!

Free Winter Themed Copywork Pages from Classic Living Books

Living books are a wonderful source of material for copywork. Just pick a passage from your favorite family read-aloud or one of your child’s current school selections, and copy a short phrase or sentence in your very neatest handwriting. Then have them copy below, and compare their work to the model. Quality is more important than quantity. A few careful letters or words done with excellence and attention is much better than a page of sloppily formed writing.

You can also use our free downloadable copywork pages for winter-themed passages taken from some of our favorite living books. In this free PDF you’ll find wintry passages from these classic works:
